About the Creator + Editor in Chief
Four years ago I made an impulsive decision to cut off all of my relaxed hair. Without any thought, guidance (as this was before the natural hair trend on youtube because a raving sensation) or understanding. All I knew was, I was tired of my relaxed hair breaking off in uncontrollable amounts. This decision was probably one of the best choices I have ever made. Growing up, I battled with what I now realize was an identity crisis. I despised my dark skin and coarse hair. I went through my teenage years and early twenties with this negativity bottled inside of me. Taking the time to care for and style my natural hair as it grew, created an inner spark I never knew existed. An inner love that I had never been exposed to understanding, let alone acknowledging. Today, I gladly say I have found the inner peace that I am certain I would not have discovered prior to embracing my natural being. This sense of self allowed me to realize everyone has a right to feel this same inner peace. Yes, natural hair care is time consuming and requires great work. But on the same note, love is patient and kind. The intimate relationship I have with my self is the same with my natural hair. This revelation inspired me to build a platform for women and girls of color. Because we face the same adversities at different phases and stages in our own lives. Yet, we are all meant to be strong, persevere, inspire and uplift. We owe it to ourselves to love and embrace who we are as we are. Unconditionally and continually.
